R.I.P. #2

I'm sad to report that we have lost another fishie. Last week our siamese fighter started looking ill, and a few days later he started showing symptoms of ich/whitespot. Despite our best efforts, starting with salt treatment and elevated temperature, and then with more drastic malachite green, he passed away yesterday afternoon. I think actually the 'medicine' killed him in the end, although he wasn't in good shape either way. I'm going to miss our pretty fighter fish :(

We noticed some small spots on Lucky (the last fish left from our first aquarium), so we are treating the larger tank too. We think the fighter actaully got the ich when we put him in the larger tank for a short time. After adding the treatment to the larger tank the guppies started to look very unhappy. A search on the internet found that the recommended dose written on the bottle is more than two times higher than necessary. Nasty. So we changed half of the tank water and instantly the fishies started to look their usual happy selves. I think we'll be following the internet instructions from now on.

Fingers crossed we will still have 4 happy guppies next week. I don't think we'll be getting another figher - not a very community friendly fish. Maybe we'll get some molly's or platy's - they should get on better with the guppies.

I'm sorry. =( Poor little fishy.

For all that we get told 'the internet is not a reliable source, it is not verified, peer assessed blah blah blah', it really is almost always right. I'm beginning to think it's just old people paranoia all that...

Actually, there's been an R.I.P #3 today. Or rather, a 'missing, presumed dead'. My rosebush mysteriously was not on my windowsill when I arrive home...

I like the new clock btw. Very good idea indeed!

Thanks! I saw the clock on someone else's blog, can't remember whose, and thought it was cool!

And if we are counting plants in the RIP list then its longer - our poor neglected african violets have been suffering and we threw one of them out the other day. The other one had some healthy looking leaves in the centre so I'm not giving up on it yet. I repotted it with some of the new soil for the herb garden which I'm assuming might have some helpful nutrients in it...
