Jazz in Millenium Park

One of the many festivals in Chicago over the summer is the Chicago Jazz Festival. Although it officially runs from Thursday to Sunday before Labour Day, there are things going on for the whole week beforehand. Andrew was away in Ohio on the Monday and so I joined Jeff and his family to see a free concert by Orbert Davis' Chicago Jazz Philharmonic at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Milennium Park. The concert featured a number of local performers singing jazz standards, as well as the Chicago Human Rhythm Project - a tap dancing group. The best bit for me was 'Hoedown, from Rodeo' which had the orchestra playing Aaron Copeland's music with one of the tap dancers performing. There was a 'solo' section where the drummer and the tap dancer tapped out the rhythm faster and faster. It was pretty cool :) Being in Millenium park as the sun went down was also very atmospheric, as the sky dimmed and the building lights twinkled.

Hi Elsie,

I've been quietly lurking on your Blog since it started and I'd like to compliment you on the wonderfully creative quality and technical expertise of your photographs.

I'm enjoying your Blog immensely and hope you continue with it in the lighthearted and creative manner that you seem to do so easily.

I'm looking forward to catching up with you and Andrew when you return later this year,

Cheers,
Don
